Myrrh Resinoid in Perfumery

Scent Profile: Myrrh resinoid has a deep, warm, balsamic aroma with sweet, smoky, and slightly medicinal undertones.

Compared to myrrh essential oil, the resinoid is richer, denser, and more tenacious, making it ideal for long-lasting base accords.

Use in Perfumery:

  • Acts as a base note and natural fixative
  • Adds depth, warmth, and mystique to oriental, woody, and incense-based compositions
  • Pairs beautifully with frankincense, labdanum, patchouli, rose, and amber
  • Common in niche and resinous perfumes

How to Dilute: Myrrh resinoid is thick and sticky, so it needs to be diluted before use:

  • Gently warm the resinoid (e.g. in a warm water bath) to make it pourable
  • Dilute to 10–20% in ethanol or DPG (dipropylene glycol) for perfumery use
  • For oil-based blends, use jojoba or fractionated coconut oil (MCT-oli)
  • Stir or shake thoroughly and let it rest for a few days to fully integrate
