Fragrance profile
- Main character: Sweet, medicinal, wintergreen-like
- Nuances: Minty, spicy, slightly fruity (cherry-like), phenolic and aromatic
- Intensity: Very powerful, often used in traces to add contrast and freshness
Use in perfumery
- Role: Top to middle note, modifier
- Effect: Gives a narcotic-medicinal brightness and amplifies fresh accords

- Classic fougères and spicy fragrances.
- Minty and sporty perfumes
- Sometimes in trace amounts for contrast in floral or fruity accords
- Dosage: Usually <1%, due to strong odor and toxicological limitations.

⚠️ Important
- IFRA thus mainly restricts use in lip products and baby products (completely banned).
- In fine fragrance, it may be dosed relatively high (up to 25%), but much lower limits apply in skin products.
- These restrictions are based on safety assessments by RIFM and are applied by IFRA worldwide.
- EU legislation (REACH/Annex II) may impose additional restrictions, but Methyl Salicylate is not banned in the EU, only regulated.
