The Massoia lactones are rare essential oil components and have only been found in a few other plants. Only a very low dosage produces a creamy, coconut-like note with greenish and slightly fruity nuances. Useful for adding warmth and fullness to soft woody accords, it offers interesting effects within amber bases and developing white floral notes such as gardenia and jasmine. Massoia also combines nicely with coumarin and tonka notes, offering a warm tropical milkiness to sandalwood accords. Just like oakmoss, for example, massoia is also limited by the IFRA (when it comes to the sale of products containing this ingredient). For personal use, as with all fragrances, it is a matter of trial and error. I have never experienced any allergic reaction or skin irritation from massoia. In Indonesia they make their own skin care products. (boory ointment).
