Iso Eugenol from Natura Aromatik is presented as derived from Syzygium aromaticum (clove, family Myrtaceae).
So it is based on a natural source, but the substance itself is created via an isomerization reaction of eugenol.
This means that the final product is technically a naturally derived flavoring agent, but is not extracted directly from the plant as “pure nature.”

How it works

  • Step 1: Fractional distillation From essential oil of clove(Syzygium aromaticum), eugenol is isolated by fractional distillation. This is a physical separation process that removes natural components from oil based on their boiling point.
  • Step 2: Isomerization The eugenol is then chemically converted to isoeugenol via an isomerization reaction. In this process, the molecular structure changes, but the molecular formula remains the same.

Fragrance group and fragrance character

  • Main group: Spicy – because of its pronounced clove-like odor.
  • Subgroup: Floral – because it is often used in floral accords (rose, carnation).
  • Aroma: Sweet-fruity, spicy, slightly clove-like, sometimes with a hint of vanilla-like.
  • Use: Base note in perfumes, but also in soaps, candles and air freshener.

Application in perfumery

  • Floral accords: Isoeugenol enhances the spicy facets of rose and carnation.
  • Spicy perfumes: Gives depth and warmth, often combined with cinnamon, clove or nutmeg.
  • Base note: Relatively stable and remains well present in the fragrance composition.
  • Dosage: Is usually used in low concentrations (0.1-2%) because of its potent and allergenic properties.
