Hydrotropic Aldehyde is a powerful aroma chemical with a green, leafy character that becomes more floral (hyacinth, lilac) in dilution.
It’s widely used in floral accords and adds a fresh, natural lift to compositions.
Use sparingly to avoid overpowering the blend.
Perfumery Applications
- Common in hyacinth, lilac, rose, narcissus, and tulip accords
- Adds a green, dewy freshness to floral and fruity compositions
- Often used as a subtle modifier to soften sharper aldehydes like phenylacetaldehyde
- Typical usage: 0.1% to 1%, with a max of ~10% in some formula
Usage Tips
- It’s very potent, so use sparingly to avoid overpowering your blend
- Not typically used in aromatherapy — it’s a perfumer’s tool, not a therapeutic one
- Can discolor or degrade over time; store in a cool, dark place
