(it gives ‘bay rum’ its unmistakable aroma) Blends well with: lavender, lavandin, rosemary, geranium, ylang ylang, citrus oils and spicy oils.

 

Bay essential oil is also known as West Indian laurel oil.
However, it differs significantly from laurel essential oil (Laurus nobilis) and cannot be compared to it at all.

 

It is a warming oil that is popular in the fall and winter.
It stimulates blood circulation and can be useful in massage blends when used in low dilution.

 

Often used in hair lotions, aftershave lotions and men’s perfumes.

 

Action: Analgesic, anticonvulsant, antineuralgic, antirheumatic, antiseptic, astringent, expectorant, stimulating, tonic (for hair).

 

Main components: Eugenol (up to 56%), myrcene, chavicol and, in smaller amounts, methyl eugenol, linalool, limonene

 

Safety: Due to the high eugenol content, do not overdose and use in moderation.
Unlike bay oil, bay oil does not appear to cause skin irritation or sensitization.

 

Aromatherapy / home use:
Skin care: stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, hair rinse against dandruff, greasy hair, lifeless hair, and
promotes healthy hair growth. Circulation, muscles and joints: muscle and joint pain, neuralgia, poor circulation, rheumatism, sprains, strains. Immune system: Colds, flu, infectious diseases.

 

Other Uses: Widely used in fragrance work, in soaps, detergents, perfumes, aftershaves and hair lotions.
Widely used as a flavoring ingredient, especially in spices, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks.
