Adoxal is prepared from pseudoionone via Darzen’s reaction* (Glycidate intermediate).
* – The Darzens reaction, also known as the Darzens condensation or glycidyl ester condensation, is a chemical reaction in which a ketone or aldehyde reacts with an α-haloester in the presence of a base to form an α,β-epoxy ester, also called a glycidyl ester. This reaction was discovered in 1904 by the French chemist Auguste Georges Darzens.
