Myrcene, also known as β-myrcene, is a monoterpene that occurs widely in nature. Terpenes tend to polymerize through oxidation. Myrcene is very unstable in alkaline bases such as in soap and candles, the smell is then no longer perceptible. Myrcene has many isomers with the same formula, alpha-Pinene, beta-Pinene and D-limonene are part of it but do not share the same odor.
