Although it belongs to the group of pine needle oils with a low ester content, pinus mugo oil deserves much attention, because its unique odor is due to traces of substances that are apparently absent in ordinary pine needle oil. It is generally believed that the characteristic odor of pinus mugo oil is due to traces of lower aliphatic aldehydes and perhaps certain cyclic aldehydes. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of Pinus Mugo, also called Pinus Montana or Pinus Purnilio. It is one of the many different species of conifers that is popularly called mountain pine.
The tree grows widely in Central Europe, especially in Austria, Yugoslavia, northern Italy and the Balkans.
Tyrol is the most important producer.Main ingredients:
Delta-3-Carene , alpha-Pinene, beta-Pinene , Limonene , Myrcene , Terpinolene , beta-Caryophyllene , Camphene, Bornyl acetate, Sabinene
