A fragrance with character and soul
Vetiver is known for its earthy, warm, and woody aroma, but the South Indian variety takes this to a higher level. The South Indian variety is closest to the plant’s original, wild nature and is often compared in the perfume world to the sophistication of rare Bourbon vetiver.
The oil is intense, velvety, and layered:
- deep, dark undertones of damp earth
- warm accents of wood and smoke
- subtle sweetness that rounds out the fragrance
It is a perfume in itself — rich, elegant, and meditative.
Artisanal origin
The roots are harvested by hand by local farming families who have worked with vetiver for generations. After washing and drying, they are slowly distilled, a process that can take days. This produces an oil that is:
- 100% pure and undiluted
- rich in natural sesquiterpenes
- exceptionally long-lasting
- possesses a fragrance profile that improves as the oil matures
This traditional method makes South Indian vetiver one of the most prized vetivers in the world.
- Character: Deeply earthy, root-like, and cooling. It has a medicinal undertone and a bitter-green facet. It is less smoky than our Javanese variety, but has a subtle, almost rosy or floral softness in the finish. Our Madagascar vetiver is somewhat lighter and nuttier
Interesting detail: In perfumery, vetiver is often called a “perfume in itself” because it contains such a broad spectrum of molecules that it needs no other ingredients to tell a complete story.
